Flattening & Surfacing

Examples of what we can flatten and surface:

  • Glue-ups

  • Live Edge Slabs

  • Table Tops

  • Warped, twisted or cupped material

  • Epoxy Tables

  • Rough sawn lumber

What you can expect:

  • Precision flattened: over the entire slab

  • Save Time: immediately ready to sand with 120 grit

  • No Grain Tear Out: We do not use a CNC Router, which can cause grain tear out

  • Surface Finish ready for 120 grit sanding

All rough sawn slabs are uneven in thickness and contain varying amounts of cupping, twisting, or bowing. These characteristics must be taken care of before building high-quality wood products. We have a full suite of machines including our custom built, 100” wide jointer planer that uses helical carbide heads to precisely flatten one face and then plane to a consistent thickness with no grain tear out. This saves you hours or days of laborious sanding and provides you with a product that is truly flat and a consistent thickness. From small projects to large slabs, we have the tools and experience to meet all your needs.

Please note: if you purchase a piece from Berdoll Sawmill, it already comes flattened and surfaced.

Testimonials from Our Customers

Berdoll Sawmill in Texas Quote

Mr. Lonnie Koenig

I brought two mesquite slabs to your sawmill to have them flattened and planed to the same thickness. I would like to commend you on how helpful and polite the two employees we dealt with were. Austin did an excellent job on the slabs.

Mr. Gavin Best

Your business has had the absolute best customer service of any I’ve ever worked with. I’ll be recommending you all to anybody who will listen for a good while.

Mr. Tom Stephenson

I appreciate the outstanding quality of your lumber. The procedures you follow in air drying your lumber and then gently finishing it in a kiln produces lumber with no internal stresses. The wood I’ve purchased at Berdoll Sawmill is dry and stable.
