Texas Walnut Lumber

The majority of the Walnut slabs and lumber at Berdoll Sawmill are milled from salvaged Black Walnut trees, a Texas native. Black Walnut trees can grow up to 100 feet tall and their trunks can be over 36 inches in diameter. The dark heartwood from these logs is usually fairly clear with few defects. These logs occasionally produce curly or figured lumber and slabs.

The Texas Walnut trees milled at Berdoll Sawmill are typically much smaller in diameter and are best utilized as lumber. Both species are most abundantly found in the northeast corner of the Lone Star State but are sometimes found in central Texas.

Native Texas Walnut lumber is available in limited quantities at Berdoll Sawmill. All of our lumber is carefully kiln dried to 6-8% moisture content in our computer controlled kilns. We do not steam our Walnut lumber or slabs in order to maintain their true rich color and heartwood/sapwood contrast.

4/4 and 8/4 lumber is available with the following options:

  • Natural edges
  • Bookmatched pairs
  • Over 12″ wide
  • Hit and miss planed
